Protesta de la Internacional de Resistentes contra la Guerra ante un evento militar de reclutamiento en Londres

Durante el fin de semana del 1 al 3 de octubre se
celebro en Londres el llamado «LondonSoldier», una
actividad en la que se exhiben toda clase de
armamento y artefactos militares, ademas de varias atracciones como simuladores de salto en paracaidas y demas
parafernalia. Todo esto con el fin de atraer gente,
porque el proposito de los organizadores es reclutar
nuevos soldados.

Desde la oficina de la WRI-IRG en Londres pensamos
que
no podiamos dejar de ir alli a expresar nuestro
rechazo a semejante montaje y mostrar a la gente que
por alli pasara la cara oculta de los ejercitos, ya
que ellos lo visten todo de aventuras, oportunidades
de trabajo y demas.

Un total de cuatro activistas nos dirigimos a los
cuarteles de Chelsea, en Londres. Alli, en la puerta
principal habia un modesto despliegue policial. En
principio tratamos de colgar nuestra pancarta en la
valla, pero enseguida acudieron en nuestra ayuda los
policias y algun militar un tanto enfadado para
explicarnos que no podiamos hacer tal cosa. Llegamos
a
un acuerdo y simplemente sujetamos nosotras mismas
la
pancarta y durante algo mas de una hora repartimos
un
panfleto y ejemplares del Broken Rifle, la revista
de
la WRI-IRG. Como en estos casos suele suceder, hubo
gente que pasaba por alli y cogia los papeles sin
mucho entusiasmo, otros los rechazaban al ver
nuestra
pancarta, e incluso alguno nos replico airadamente.
Hicimos algunas fotos y nos retiramos, pero
volveremos
de nuevo.

Be the best…

Don’t be a paid killer!

The military are engaged in a propaganda war. Here today, out on Chelsea
Barracks they are attempting to con you into believing that being in the army is all
about learning new skills, travelling the world, being peacekeepers and defending
«our» country against an unspecified «enemy». They
also pretend that everyone (black/white, male/female,
gay/straight) is welcome to join.

But «being the best» shouldn’t involve killing people
you have never even met.

And «being the best» shouldn’t mean «protecting our
economic interests overseas» through violence.

«Being the best» does not mean having an equal
opportunity to kill!

Soldiers are trained and paid to be killers.
Pretending they are not is dishonest.

Maybe you think it’s cool to bring your kids here to
play with the tanks and the rest of the kit, but have a
think, would you really want your kids to grow up to
become trained killers? The army exploits young
people, the working class, and people from minority
communities. They don’t care if you die – they just
want you to do their dirty work for them. Politicians
direct the army and you know that politicians are
corrupt. Why should you trust them with your sons
and daughters?

Don’t believe their hype!
